Intergraph SG&I’s Green IT Initiative Nominated for Wichmann Innovation Award

Intergraph SG&I’s Green IT / Green GIS initiative - a Central European campaign - has been nominated for this year’s Wichmann Innovations Award 2015, sponsored by the Wichmann publishing house. Intergraph is one of 10 companies have made it onto the nominee list.

Intergraph gives fresh impetus to Green IT. Until now, Green IT has referred to the use of resources and hardware power requirements. Intergraph‘s approach is to select the most efficient GIS software.  Our initiative aims to greatly reduce the volume of geospatial data by compressing it, saving storage capacity in the process.  As a result, we’re minimizing the need for energy hungry servers and other IT infrastructure.  Our approach is supplemented by more efficient data cataloguing and innovative data transfer technologies, greatly reducing bandwidth demands on the network. This approach aims to positively influence the carbon footprint our technologies our customers.  In this sense, Intergraph is offering the first real ‘Green GIS’; it is unique throughout the worldwide industry.

This year’s Wichmann Innovations Award winner will be announced during the annual INTERGEO trade fair and conference in Stuttgart, Germany. Online voting has already started, and ends September 16, 2015.
