HxGN LIVE Video Vault: Lessons Learned in Managing Criminal Evidence from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

The chain of custody process for hard evidence is straightforward. But with the proliferation of mobile phones and smart devices, public safety agencies are quickly becoming inundated with digital media, including photos, videos, audio recordings, and text messages. The soft nature of these evidence types makes them vulnerable to tampering, manipulation, and destruction. To protect and safeguard digital evidence, new methodologies and technologies need to be applied to the chain of custody and evidence management process.

In this video from HxGN LIVE 2015, I talk with Crystal Cody from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure’s vice president of product center operations Steve Marz about the issues involved with collecting, safeguarding, and storing digital evidence. Enjoy!
