Automatic emergency caller location saves valuable time in South Australia
Needing to improve the speed and accuracy of locating calls from mobile devices, South Australia turned to Hexagon to deploy advanced mobile location (AML) services for its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
In the state of South Australia, approximately 78% of emergency calls now come from mobile devices. Its CAD system was challenged to locate Triple Zero emergency callers accurately and automatically from these devices, relying instead on callers to verbally give their locations, which could be difficult, dangerous, and inefficient.
Advanced Mobile Location (AML) service was introduced countrywide, with enhancements allowing a smartphone to send an automatic location estimate when a call is placed, leveraging the same location capabilities used for consumer applications, like maps and directions.
South Australia Police (SAPOL) was one of the first agencies in the country to deploy the AML service. Needing to improve the speed and accuracy of locating calls from mobile devices, South Australia turned to Hexagon to deploy the services for its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, SACAD.
