During this year's annual DistribuTECH conference, longtime Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure customer Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s (SMUD) Distribution Operations Transformation received the 2018 POWERGRID International and DistribuTECH Customer Engagement Project of the Year Award.

SMUD identified new ways to use smart meters and data analytics to improve customer communications. In its first full year of implementation, SMUD has decreased customer-initiated power quality claims by 27.5 percent. SMUD's partners on the Distribution Operations Transformation included Hexagon, Silver Spring Networks (now part of Itron), Landis+Gyr, and OSI Soft.

SMUD is no strange to recognition and praise by the electrical power industry. In 2015, SMUD made Greentech Media’s Grid Edge 20 list for its Situational Awareness and Visual Intelligence initiative, which uses Hexagon’s technology to visualize historical and real-time grid data from more than 30 different systems.

I would like to say, “congratulations” to SMUD for being honored and recognized again for its innovative strategies and transformative contributions to the U.S. electrical power sector. Hexagon is proud to call SMUD our partner.
